john street jam

Some of you may have heard of (or even played at) the John Street Jam in Saugherties. A couple have been running it for quite a few years but are now retiring the show. It is a pity, because they brought together 8 of the best singer/songwriter folk/rock/pop/blues musicians in the greater area to play in the round, taking turns. Always a wonderful show and known for having fantastic musical talent.
Well, I am wondering if a model like that would be possible locally here. We have the musical talent (they ran monthly for many years, and many folks from this area were included), but we would need people to help organize it, equipment for sound, people to advertise it, and a place to have it.
I could certainly work on it, but I doubt I could do it all myself. I am wondering if there is any interest in bringing a hudson/columbia county style john street jam here....

Great Blue a/k/a Shirl Lawrence & Steve Kaplan on April 27

Great Blue is flying north to Columbia County!

Shirl Lawrence & Steve Kaplan (a/k/a Great Blue) will bring their eclectic mix of acoustic treats to the Singer/Songwriter Showcase Series at REV Coffeehouse.
Shirl Lawrence and Steve Kaplan have been singing together for more than three decades. In recent years, their beautifully crafted harmonies have been heard at coffeehouses in their native Hudson Valley. They have been singing at Clearwater festivals for more than a decade as members of the Walkabout Chorus and the Sloopsingers. Their eclectic musical sources include Kate Wolf’s haunting ballads and songs echoing Clearwater’s environmental message. One Woody Guthrie sailor who ought to know said Steve’s “We’ll Make It to Coxsackie” truly described how it felt to be in a Hudson River storm. Listeners often comment about the beautiful sounds Shirl’s voice has graced them with. This duo is now called “Great Blue” after the observant heron they often find during their kayak trips.
